How to Verify a Brake Pad Supplier in China
Brake pads require more than a catalog match. The buyer should connect the application list, friction formulation, backing plate, shims, markings, process controls, test evidence, sample, and batch inspection to the quoted supplier.

When to use this guide
Use this guide before selecting a brake pad source or approving private-label production. Match the verification depth to the target market, vehicle application, safety risk, and claims made in the quotation.
Decision checklist
What the buyer should verify
Application and reference control
Review OE cross-references, vehicle application, shape, dimensions, wear sensor, accessories, left-right or axle set, and market-specific requirements.
Material and construction
Clarify friction-material family, backing plate, adhesive or retention method, scorching, slot, chamfer, shim, coating, and prohibited substitutions.
Process and test evidence
Ask about mixing, pressing, curing, grinding, bonding checks, dimensions, hardness, shear or performance test access, traceability, and control records.
Sample and batch release
Approve fitment, markings, packaging, visible construction, and applicable test evidence, then define inspection and document checks for production.
Working sequence
Move from supplier claim to buyer decision
Freeze the application list
Identify each shape and reference, vehicle market, sensor or hardware requirement, packaging, and claim before quotation comparison.
Verify the manufacturing role
Confirm whether the supplier formulates, presses, cures, finishes, tests, or purchases the pads from another producer.
Approve product evidence
Review samples, measurements, markings, material statement, relevant reports, packaging, and any destination certification scope.
Define batch controls
Use traceability, quantity, workmanship, dimensions, labels, packaging, document review, and agreed specialist tests for release.
Evidence to collect
- OE and vehicle application list with shape and accessory details
- Friction material, backing plate, shim, sensor, and construction specification
- Manufacturing-process and relevant test capability evidence
- Approved sample, markings, packaging, and report scope
- Batch traceability, inspection, correction, and release records
Warning signs
- The supplier uses one quality claim for all compounds, applications, and markets.
- Test reports cannot be connected to the supplier, site, material, shape, or current product.
- Shape, wear sensor, accessories, markings, or packaging change after sample approval.
Responsibility boundary
Brake components are safety-critical. Supplier verification and sampling do not replace engineering approval, applicable certification, laboratory or dynamometer testing, traceability requirements, and destination-market responsibility.

Review service scopeFrequently asked questions
What should I verify in a Chinese brake pad factory?
Verify the legal and manufacturing entity, application control, friction material and construction, process capability, relevant testing, traceability, samples, packaging, and batch-release controls.
Does IATF certification prove brake pad quality?
A relevant quality-system certificate can support the review, but check the holder, site, scope, validity, and product relationship. It does not replace product evidence and batch controls.
Can visual inspection confirm brake pad performance?
No. Visual and dimensional checks can identify some defects and wrong variants. Performance, durability, friction behavior, and regulated claims require appropriate technical evidence and testing.
